Over the last few weeks, all across Lakota year-end ceremonies are honoring the academic achievements of our students. At the high schools, the “Top 25” students, representing approximately the upper 4% of their graduating class, were recognized during some special celebrations.

Lakota East held an “Academic Signing Day” as well as a reception prior to the Senior Academic Awards Night. The signing day celebration was added last year. “With academics being our core business, we feel that holding an ‘Academic Signing Day’ (similar to those held for student-athletes) is a wonderful opportunity for students in the Top 25 to declare where they plan to attend,” said East Principal Suzanna Davis. Families were invited to be part of the signing ceremony.

Lakota West continued a longstanding tradition for its top 25 students this year – a dinner for the students, their parents and a teacher or staff member who has most impacted the student. The highlight of the evening is when students stand up front to talk about why their teacher and parents are so important to them. “This event is about honoring the students, but is also a great way for them to publicly honor their teachers and parents,” Card said. “I go to lots of events,” continued Card. “But this one is special. It’s one of my favorites of the entire year.”
