Lakota Local Schools is proud to welcome SanMar Corporation as the newest member of its business internship program, adding to its growing portfolio of high school student internships. This brings the district’s total count to 19 local businesses supporting career exploration and regional workforce development among Lakota high school students.
SanMar is one of the 11 companies offering summer internship placements, providing up to 56 students unique learning opportunities. That’s in addition to the 45 students who will participate in an internship session over spring break.
“Adding SanMar to our internship program enriches the business component of our internships as their student rotations will focus on distribution and supply chain management,” explains Fran Morrison, Lakota’s senior director of Innovation Programming K-12.
She adds, “This placement is ideal for students who are interested in business management, human resources, logistics and leadership development.”
“SanMar is excited to provide additional internship opportunities for students of Lakota Local Schools, one of the premier school systems in the state,” said Scott Tillery, warehouse manager at SanMar’s Cincinnati distribution center. “We are committed to making a difference in the community where we live, work and play. Joining this internship program is certainly a symbol of that.”
Students will learn about the global supply chain process and observe the workflow of a distribution center, performance management practices and effective planning and forecasting models.
In addition, the new internship will offer students insight into the apparel and accessories field, as one of the rotations will focus on the role of embroiderers and screen printers in the creation of a product and today’s customization methods. Students will even have the opportunity to design and order a custom product.
“One of the aspects that drew us to add SanMar to our internship program is their focus on family values,” adds Morrison. “As a family-owned and operated business, they have a strong balance between their business model and a focus on values such as making a difference, doing the right thing and delivering quality.”
This new opportunity continues the expansion of Lakota’s internship programs. “We’re pleased to see how popular these placements are with our juniors and seniors, with such robust offerings in the government, non-profit, business, and medical arenas,” states Robb Vogelmann, Acting Superintendent. “Regardless of which company our students are placed with, these opportunities provide real world, experiential learning experiences that help develop the next generation of professionals. Following this experience, we know our students are in a better position to take the next step in their college and career planning.”
In total, up to 56 rising juniors and seniors will be selected to participate in one of 11 different summer program options ranging from marketing research, financial services and communication, to specialized biomedical experiences in pharmacy, rehab, sports medicine and nursing.
Application timelines vary and students will be asked to participate in an interview process for each one. Click here for complete details for the summer internship line-up, including brochures, applications and program descriptions.
