Congratulations to Lakota's top spellers!
Kyle Dao – sixth grade at Heritage Elementary
Husna Kider - eighth grade at Hopewell Junior
Maghul Obaid - sixth grade at Hopewell Elementary
Will Rueter – sixth grade at Independence Elementary
Kaydn Schmidt – fifth grade at Woodland Elementary
As
reported in an earlier story, Woodland fifth-grader Kadyn Schmidt
was one of the younger competitors at the regional Spelling Bee last
Saturday. As impressive is that he was joined by four other students
from Lakota.
Having five Lakota students qualify for the
regional level of competition is unique, especially when you consider
only about 70 from the Greater Cincinnati region advanced this far.
Getting to this level means not only placing in the top spot at your
school, but then completing a 50-question online test.
Of the
more than 11 million students who compete in round one of the Spelling
Bee competition nationally, only about 300 qualify for the final round
in Washington D.C.
