The Foundation of Learning
The elementary school years form the foundation from which students can discover their passions and grow into lifetime learners.
At Lakota, we take very seriously the responsibility to support our youngest students in their mastery of core subject areas like math, reading, science, and social studies. Different curricular programming like Response to Intervention (RtI), allows our teachers and staff to respond to the individual learning levels of students.
Our innovative elementary STEAM labs, taking off across the district, give students early exposure to the STEAM2 fields - science, technology, engineering, applied arts/design, mathematics, and medical - through the STEAM2 "Engineering is Elementary" curriculum
adopted in Lakota's elementary classrooms. The approach is all about intersecting these high-demand career fields with the ability to inquire, problem-solve, collaborate as a team, and communicate more effectively.
Character education is an important component to our curriculum at Lakota, at all grade levels, but especially at the elementary level. Lakota schools follow a concept known as Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, or PBIS, which centers around guiding principles like respect, integrity, positivity, citizenship, compassion, and teamwork.
We hope your student is challenged through his/her Lakota elementary experience and most importantly, enjoys exploring his/her interests and passions before having even more opportunities at the junior high and high school levels.
