Auditor of State AwardFewer than 5 percent of all entities that are audited annually earn the Auditor of State Award with Distinction – and Lakota has received the honor six years in a row.

Treasurer  Jenni Logan was virtually presented with the award for the district’s clean audit and excellent record keeping at the Sept. 14 Board of Education meeting. The award recognizes the district’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency.

“It is important to note that this award from the Auditor of State’s Office puts Lakota Schools in a very select group,” said presenter Ryan Holliday, southwest regional liaison for the Ohio Auditor of State. “This award represents the hard work of every school district employee who strives every day to achieve accounting excellence. I especially want to recognize Jenni Logan for her outstanding leadership, professionalism, and commitment to fiscal integrity.”

Logan was quick to point out that the award is totally a team effort, and she accepted it on behalf of everyone. She noted the tireless efforts of her team, despite the challenges over the last six months due to COVID-19. “One of the pillars of Lakota’s strategic plan is fiscal responsibility, something that our team takes very seriously,” said Logan.

The Auditor of State Award with Distinction was issued by Ohio Auditor Keith Faber for the 2019 fiscal year audit period.

The criteria to receive the award includes:

  • Complete a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) within 6 months of fiscal year end;
  • Have a “clean audit” with no findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs; and
  • Have no other financial concerns.
