Lakota Local Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of two new leaders at VanGorden Elementary and Woodland Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year.

Succeeding the current assistant principals, both of which have decided to return to the classroom next school year, are Julie Engelbert at VanGorden and Liz Gruber at Woodland.

Engelbert returns to Lakota after spending the last five years teaching at Indian Hill Exempted Village School District. Most recently, she has served as a curriculum coordinator for the primary school where she teaches. Julie’s roots are with Lakota, where she started her teaching career in 2006 at Independence Elementary and later, at Wyandot Early Childhood School.

After 11 years in the teaching field, Engelbert brings an extensive amount of leadership experience in curriculum and professional development. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph and holds two master’s degrees from Marygrove College and Miami University.

“I am so excited to welcome Julie back to Lakota as a member of our team here at VanGorden,” said VanGorden Principal Gail Allshouse. “She has an undeniable love of learning and shares our team’s sentiments for holding the interests of our students at the center of everything we do.”

Gruber brings to her new role three years of administrative experience at Lakota. She will be making the move from Wyandot Early Childhood School, where she’s served as the assistant principal for the last two years. She was also a former Lakota teacher and reading specialist.

She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Miami University.

“Liz will be a great asset to our team here at Woodland, especially as a familiar face to many former Wyandot students,” said Woodland Principal John Wise. “I’m looking forward to working side-by-side with her to continue bringing our students opportunities that match their individual learning needs.”
