The Lakota Board of Education accepted the resignation of school board member Todd Parnell at an emergency meeting this afternoon.

“Mr. Parnell has resigned from his position on the Lakota Board of Education due to personal reasons,” said School Board President Brad Lovell. “He has explained that he is no longer able to meet the commitments required of a school board member due to business and family obligations.”

Lovell, along with Vice President Kelley Casper and members Lynda O’Connor and Julie Shaffer, voted unanimously to accept Parnell’s resignation.

The board members will begin the process of appointing a new member to fill the vacancy at Monday’s previously scheduled work session. Per Policy 0157, interested candidates from the community will be asked to submit a notice of their interest in writing to the school board president. The board must wait to take action on fulfilling the position for at least 10 days.

Information on applying for the position will be shared with the community following Monday’s meeting.
