This is the image for the news article titled LODI Introduces Kinship Connections to Link Lakota CaregiversKinship Connections presented by LODILakota’s Outreach Diversity & Inclusion (LODI) Department is introducing a monthly program called “Kinship Connections.” Designed for our grandparents and other kinship caregivers of Lakota students, the program is being introduced in response to the feedback district leaders received at a Community Conversation with some members of this group earlier this year.

"We heard loud and clear the unique challenges and needs of families facing these circumstances," said Leah Aguilar, LODI's parent engagement and community outreach coordinator. "This is just one way we hope Lakota can better support our families who are doing their best to guide some of our learners through school despite some very difficult challenges for some." 

Each virtual meeting will not only connect participants with one another, but also provide them with new tools and strategies for supporting their student(s) through their educational journey. LODI has scheduled these monthly virtual meetings through January 2020 as follows and anticipates more to be announced in the new year.

The first session will serve as an introduction to the Butler County Educational Service Center’s Kinship Navigator Program. The local resource is a new partnership with Lakota and Monroe school districts, as well as Bethany United Methodist Church.
Meals and meetings are hosted on the first Wednesday of each month  and bring together kinship caregivers in our area.

There is no need to pre-register. Simply join via Zoom on the designated date and time.
