info on meet the candidates nightElection season will soon be upon us and the Lakota District Parent Council (DPC) has partnered with the West Chester/Liberty Chamber Alliance and Miami University to host a virtual forum to meet the candidates running for the Lakota Board of Education. This virtual event will take place via a Zoom webinar on Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

This will be the second time DPC has hosted the event. “This is an opportunity for Lakota community members, parents, students and staff to learn more about each candidate and why they are running for the Lakota Board of Education,” said DPC President Lisa Phair.

A professional moderator from the Menard Family Center for Democracy will facilitate the event. This individual is not employed by Lakota Schools, nor is he affiliated with the Lakota DPC or Chamber Alliance. Eight candidates are running for three available seats on the school board.

Through ThoughtExchange, an online engagement tool, the community will have the opportunity to submit questions to be considered for the debate. The moderator will review the responses and may choose to incorporate some into the questions asked during the event. The moderator will be solely responsible for creating all final questions, which will not be shown to anyone prior to reading them live during the webinar.

Stakeholders are invited to participate in the ThoughtExchange, which will be open through Sept. 22. In addition to submitting questions, participants are encouraged to return to the exchange throughout the month to review other thoughts and rate them using a five-star system. All responses are anonymous. The highest-rated thoughts will rise to the top, allowing stakeholders, and the moderator, to see the most pressing questions suggested.
