globe bird with wings spreadLakota Local Schools is excited to introduce Lakota Central for the 2022-2023 school year. Lakota Central brings together the three different flexible learning options for students under one roof: The Academy, Access and Lakota’s Virtual Learning Option (VLO).

“Bringing these great programs together under one umbrella enables us to expand current opportunities for our students,” said Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Keith Koehne. “The student experience for anyone currently enrolled in these programs will not change. However, bringing the programs together enables the district to increase programming and better meet the needs of its students.”

The move comes as changes at the state level require blended and online programs to be independent schools within a district. Although the overall name of the program will change, the student experience will remain the same. Students enrolled in Lakota Central will still be able to participate in activities at our high schools,” explained Koehne. “Prom, graduation, athletics and clubs at East or West are still options for our Lakota Central students.”
For current Lakota students, the deadline to indicate interest in Lakota Central is March 11.

  • Students already enrolled in these programs have received a separate communication with further instructions via email.
  • Current Lakota students who are interested in enrolling in Lakota Central should speak with their school counselor.
  •  For students new to the district, families should indicate their interest in Lakota Central at the time of enrollment.
