    Community Conversation Brings Business Leaders and Students Together

    What happens when you fill a room with business leaders and high school students? A conversation that bridges the gap and benefits both groups. Lakota Local Schools partnered with the West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance to host its second community conversation between local business leaders and high school students. “We believe in providing real world learning opportunities for our kids,” said Superintendent Matthew Miller. “Partnerships with the Chamber Alliance and the business community are crucial to making that happen.”

    In preparation for our community’s annual celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all Lakota students are invited to participate in a contest that promotes self-reflection about diversity and inclusion in our community and nationwide. This year’s "20-20 Vision" theme challenges students to use their hindsight vision to identify Dr. King’s single most important accomplishment. The contest is part of the community-wide observance of MLK Day, known as the "Live the Dream: Our Declaration of Unity" celebration.

    New Freshman LINCC and Humanities Labs Get Personal

    It’s known as LINCC Lab at East Freshman and Humanities Lab across town at West Freshman. But the concept is the same: Give the same group of students the same schedule across two or three core subjects and consecutive class periods, then remove the division (or the bell changes). Known as co-teaching among educators, it’s a model that lends itself to student choice and cross-curricular projects that tackle all the same standards, but oftentimes add in skills of real world learning like collaboration, communication and creativity, for example.

    District-wide 'Stuff the Bus' Food Drive Kicks Off Oct. 18

    Lakota’s annual district-wide food drive for Reach Out Lakota kicks, running Oct. 18 through Nov. 1, continues to make an impact beyond West Chester and Liberty townships. The district has again invited neighboring districts to join the cause, this year teaming up with Middletown City Schools and Hamilton City Schools for the friendly crosstown competition.
